Iran Press/Europe: The 94th session of the executive council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) ended on Thursday with 29 votes in favor and 9 abstentions and 3 negative votes (Russia, China, and the Islamic Republic of Iran) were approved.
Iran's ambassador to the Netherlands called the decision illegal and politically motivated and considered it unacceptable.
"Alireza Kazemi Abadi" described this action as a step towards politicizing the organization and division among members and specified, "The new decision ignores many factors, including Syria's extensive efforts to cooperate with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which are also mentioned in the reports of the Director-General of the Organization.
Responding to the US ambassador's criticism of our country's stance, the diplomat said, "The use of chemical weapons by Saddam's regime in the 1980s against the Iranian people has forced countries to realize the need for a chemical weapons convention."
"Many countries that provided Saddam with chemical weapons and instructed him to attack areas that would have the greatest impact on the Iranian people are now among the countries that support this decision," Iranian Envoy Added.
The new decision must be finalized at the 25th Conference of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in December this year.
Later, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman called the first report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) probe team on using chemical weapons in Syria as biased, one-sided, dependent, and out of OPCW's authority.
Mousavi Said: "Iran, as the biggest victim of chemical weapons in the contemporary era, condemns using chemical weapons by anybody under any condition anywhere."
