Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's political and media adviser said signing a joint military agreement with Tehran is the first step in defeating Caesar's law.

Iran PressMiddle East: In an interview with Yemen's Al-Masira network on Friday, Bouthaina Shaaban pointed to the US sanctions under the 'Caesar Act' against Syria and noted that just as the US siege strengthened Iran, Syria also is capable of turning the siege into an opportunity and become stronger.

Shaaban also referred to the increase of Syria's cooperation with other countries of Resistance axis as a measure to confront the US sanctions, adding: "We will strengthen our relations with the East Axis, such as China and Russia."

Iran's Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense of Syria Lt. Gen. Ali Abdullah Ayoub, signed a comprehensive military cooperation agreement between in Damascus on Wednesday.

The US Congress passed Caesar Law in 2019 and enforced it from the beginning of June. The US sanctions against Syria in the form of the so-called 'Caesar Act' targeted 39 Syrian officials and figures including President Bashar al-Assad and his wife. Since 2011, the United States has targeted Syria with all kinds of sanctions in support of terrorists.
