The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has announced the formation of a committee to investigate the assassination of Hisham al-Hashimi, a prominent Iraqi analyst.

Iran Press/Middle East: Hisham al-Hashimi was attacked by two motorcyclists in front of his home in Baghdad's Zioneh district last night (Monday) while returning from an interview with an Iraqi network. The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the assassination of al-Hashimi.

According to Baghdad Al-Youm, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazemi fired the head of the regional security department located in the place where al-Hashimi was assassinated.

Iraqi political figures and government officials issued statements on Monday night condemning the assassination of Hisham al-Hashimi.

Another report from Iraq states that Yassin al-Bakri, a spokesman for the Iraqi prime minister's media, has resigned. It is only four days since he was elected as the spokesman for the Iraqi Prime Minister's Office.

Al-Hashimi's assassination has sparked a wave of outrage among Iraqi media, politics, and cyberspace, with activists calling for the government and security forces to identify the perpetrators.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the assassination of al-Hashimi.
