Iraq (IP) - The leader of the Sadrists Movement called on the Iraqi parliament and government to agree with the closure of the Washington Embassy in Baghdad.

Muqtada al-Sadr called on the government and parliament for the first time, for public interests, to vote for closing Washington's embassy in Baghdad because of the unduly support of the United States for the Israeli regime's crimes against Gaza.

Noting the shutdown of the US should be done while the diplomatic personnel would be protected, Sadr said: "We are waiting for the government's response and action in this regard."

He warned that in case the government and parliament did not give a due response, the movement would take a different position, calling on the Sadrists and others to wait for the official decision made to be declared while doing no military action.

The leader of the Sadr Movement earlier called on Iran, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, as the leaders of the Islamic and Arabic countries, to make efforts to provide the people of Gaza with water and food.

The extensive air raids on the Gazan people mingled with a blockade on them came after the Palestinian resistance forces carried out the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood on the Israeli regime's forces on October 7 in response to the regime's daily crimes against the Palestinian people during 75 years of occupation of Palestine.

According to Palestinian officials, the death toll in Gaza has risen to more than 7,000 people, including nearly 3,000 children.

Only a “handful” of aid convoys have been allowed into Gaza and the situation for besieged and bombed Palestinians is spiraling out of control, says Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the UN’s Palestine refugees agency, as Al-Jazeera reports.
