Iran Press/ Iran news: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran said in a statement on Thursday that Tehran is ready to cooperate with the new non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and stated that the key agenda of the Security Council for the period 2022-2021 should be an effective support for multilateralism and international law against evil ideologies and governments.
The Security Council consists of fifteen members, five of whom are permanent and ten non-permanent.
The permanent members of the Security Council are China, France, Russia, Britain, and the United States.
The ten non-permanent members of the Security Council shall be elected by the General Assembly in accordance with the participation of the members of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security and other objectives of the Organization, as well as on the basis of equitable geographical distribution.
Non-permanent members of the Security Council are elected for a two-year term.
Some countries, such as Brazil, Germany, India, and Japan, have repeatedly called for the amendment of the Charter as well as joining the permanent members of the Security Council.
