The Pakistani government reopened Taftan (Mirjaveh) common border with Iran to facilitate trade between the two countries just for seven days.

Iran PressAsia: After the Pakistani officials decided to remove the obstacles on the way of trade with Iran, Islamabad's Interior Ministry in a statement on Thursday 18 June issued the order of reopening of the Taftan (Mirjaveh) border crossing for trade according to health protocols.

The statement from Pakistani Interior Ministry said the Taftan border is open seven days a week only for trading activities between Iran and Pakistan.

As per instructions, the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) has been declared mandatory during activities on the border.

Earlier, an official statement said that on the intervention of the Speaker of National Assembly and the Special Committee on Agricultural Products, various issues faced by Mango exporters and farmers have been resolved.

The committee had deliberated on hurdles to Pakistani mango exporters particularly the upward revision of freight charges by Pakistan International Airlines and logistical issues at the Taftan border.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Iran-Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce Amanollah Shahnavazi says the two countries’ border bazaars are gradually resuming activities following the reopening of the border crossings.

The Mirjaveh border (Pakistan's official border with Iran) has been open for two days and border markets are gradually reopening, Shahnavazi said.

"Currently, only basic goods and foodstuff are allowed to cross the Mirjaveh border, but it has been decided for other goods to be exported during the current week,” he added.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and the restrictions imposed by Pakistan, border exchanges between Iran and Pakistan were limited and suspended for about four months.

Pakistan first closed its eastern and western borders with Iran, Afghanistan, and India on March 15 to contain the spread of the new coronavirus.

The border markets of Iran and Pakistan are mostly based in Sistan-Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran.

The bazaars of the province are located in Mirjaveh, Kuhak, Pishin, Jaleq, and Riman.
