Iran Press/ Iran News: Head of Iran's Environment Department Ali Salajegheh held a joint press conference with the UN President Coordinator to Iran, Stephen Priesner, about an international conference on dust storms, which is to be held in the next week.
Speaking in the press brief held on Tuesday, Ali Salajegheh stressed the environment as a common issue of humankind that must not be politicized.
Salajegheh said that Iran pursued the dust storm challenge through bilateral and multilateral consultative meetings and created a regional convergence around the region to make the dust storm be recognized as a common threat to the region.
He referred to the dust storm as an emerging environmental threat, the ultimate target of which in the region is Iran, saying the dust comes to Iran from the Horn of Africa, some Arab countries and the Persian Gulf's littoral countries.
He talked about two subregional plans in Iran, which cover the south, southwest, north, and northeast of the country, with the target points of the dust storms being determined.
The head of the Iranian Department of Environment highlighted the diverse climate that has made the Iranians adapt themselves to it; the experiences in this regard are required to be shared in the world.
Salajegheh said Tehran will host a three-day event in the next week, which will be participated by about 50 countries and 20 international institutions. On the third day, the participants, including China and India, will take part in a meeting over the Makran region in southeastern Iran.
Thanks to the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran within its environment diplomacy, last year's July 12 was registered by the UN as the International Day of the Fight against Dust Storm.
