Johannesburg (IP) – Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in South Africa's Johannesburg.

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also attended the meeting.

President Raisi referred to the existing agreements between Iran and China and underlined the need for implementing the agreements within the framework of the 25-year strategic cooperation.

Xi Jinping, for his part, congratulated Iran on its BRICS membership and announced Beijing's readiness to develop bilateral cooperation with Iran in diverse fields.

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi had left Tehran for Johannesburg at the head of a delegation on Wednesday night.

In today’s BRICS meeting, the Islamic Republic of Iran and five other countries officially joined the bloc.
