Iran, Russia express concern over humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Syria

Tehran (IP) - Iranian Foreign Minister's Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation discussed the latest developments in Syria and Yemen in a telephone conversation, expressing concern over the humanitarian crisis in the two countries.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Foreign Minister's Senior Assistant for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin spoke on the phone on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in Yemen, as well as the escalation of the humanitarian crisis due to the outbreak of coronavirus, announcing their readiness to help the suffering people of Yemen.

Both sides stressed the need for a political settlement of the Yemeni crisis through Yemeni-Yemeni talks.

In the conversation, Khaji emphasized the need to establish a comprehensive ceasefire, lifting the siege, and resuming the political process.

The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Syria, as well as holding the meeting of the guarantor countries of the Astana process.

They also expressed concern over the difficult situation of the Syrian people and the escalation of tensions as a result of the sanctions.

Khaji condemned the unilateral and oppressive sanctions imposed on the Syrian people and called for the lifting of sanctions and doing necessary measures to alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.
