Iran Press/ Europe: Sheikh Mustafa Yusuf Spahic, the Mufti of the Islamic Community of Serbia and Imam of Bajrakli Mosque said on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the establishment of Bajrakli Mosque that Belgrade hosts followers and citizens of different religions.
Also, on the anniversary of the establishment of the Bajrakli Mosque, a commemorative stamp with the only work of religious-Islamic architecture in Belgrade was unveiled.
The Bajrakli Mosque in Belgrade was built in 1522 by the Ottoman Empire.
However, between 1717 and 1739, when the Austrians occupied Belgrade, Bajrakli Mosque was converted into a Roman church, and after the Ottomans recaptured the city, it was again transformed into a mosque.
Belgrade's Bajrakli Mosque was burned down during the 2004 crisis in Kosovo. The building of the mosque was then renovated and became the existing building at the present day.
