Iran Press/ Iran News: After a Swedish-Iraqi national desrespected the Holy Qur'an for the second time on Thursday (July 20) in the last few weeks, a far-right group in Denmark desecrated the Holy Qur'an outside the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen.
Majid Nili-Ahmadabadi, Director-General for Western Europe at Iran's Foreign Ministry, summoned Jesper Vahr, the ambassador of Denmark to Iran after the incident.
Iran's Ahmadabadi condemned any desecration of Islamic sanctities anywhere in the world, saying that "Book (Qur'an) burning" in Europe was a reminder of the "dark atmosphere of the era of ignorance and the Middle Ages," which in turn was "the biggest threat to the freedom of thought in the West."
Ahmadabadi expressed concern about the lack of action from European governments regarding the desecration and insult of the Holy Qur'an. He stated that burning books signifies the end of freedom of thought, and remaining silent in the face of such a cultural atrocity only leads to violence and the promotion of terrorism.
He expressed expectations of Iran's government, along with the other free-thinkers and Muslims of the world, that the government of Denmark "must take serious measures to prevent the repetition of bitter and dark approaches by taking deterrent measures," stressing the arresting and punishing of the wrongdoers, to provide the ground for the realization of the principle of respect for the sacredness of divine religions and peaceful coexistence.
In the meeting, the ambassador of Denmark, for his part, expressed his regret for the sacrilege of the Holy Qur'an and said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark had condemned the desecration of the Holy Qur'an and called it as a terrible act.
Jesper Vahr condemned the disrespect towards other religions, describing it as a "shameful act." He emphasized that the Danish government disassociates itself from such provocative acts, which only aim to create division and serve no purpose.
The ambassador of Denmark to Iran stated that he will promptly report the situation to his government officials.
