Iran ranks 5th among vegetable producing countries

Tehran (IP) - According to Iran Press News Agency, Iran is one of the top 10 countries in the world which is responsible for the production of one-third of the World 's agricultural products.

Iran PressIran news: Vegetables play an important role in strengthening the immune system and preventing cancer. These products contain a variety of vitamins and minerals that are very good for health.

Orange vegetables such as carrots and pumpkins contain beta-carotene, which protects the body against cancer. Green leafy vegetables such as celery, spinach, broccoli, and parsley contain carotenoids, lutein, and flavonoids that provide the fiber, folate, and beta-carotene needed by the body to help treat disease.

Red vegetables such as tomatoes, watermelons, and purple cabbage have phytochemicals that can protect the skin from the sun's rays.

China is the world's largest producer of 539 million tons of vegetables a year, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

India is next with 100 million tons, followed by the United States with 35 million tons and Turkey with 25 million tons.

Iran is also ranked fifth and produces about 20 million tons of vegetables each year in the world, which is equivalent to 1.9 percent of the world's total vegetable production. 207
