Iran's ambassador to the UN office in Geneva stated that the US must be held accountable for its coercive behavior and its repeated pattern of abuse of the UN Security Council.

Iran Press/Europe: Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN Office in Geneva, Ismail Baghaei Hamaneh, wrote on his Twitter account on Monday that the fact that the United States had adhered to Security Council Resolution 2231, is considered as mocking and insulting the principles of international relations.

Baghaei Hamaneh pointed out the international conventions saying that "According to the International Commission of Judges, the rights of the party that rejects its obligations and does not implement cannot be recognized."

The New York Times recently reported that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was seeking a legal plan to show that the United States is still a member of the UN Security Council so that it can push for an extension of Iran's arms embargo, which expires in October.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, referring to the US withdrawal from JCPOA in 2018 aiming at exerting "maximum pressure" on the Islamic Republic, stressed: "Pompeo now wants to be a partner of JCPOA after the disgraceful defeat of maximum pressure."
