Three killed, four injured in blast outside Afghanistan Laghman prison

Three civilians were killed and four security personnel were injured on Saturday in a motorcycle bomb attack outside the provincial prison of Afghanistan’s eastern Laghman province.

Iran Press/Asia: “The attack took place shortly after 10 am in Mehtarlam. Unfortunately, in this attack, three civilians were killed and four members of the security forces were injured. The four injured officers had been taken to the provincial hospital and were in a stable condition,”  Assadullah Dawlatzai, spokesman for the Governor's Office said.

The obvious target of the blast was Noor Mohammad, director of the provincial prison directorate, who sustained injuries in the explosion, the official said.

The blast came as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) on Monday announced that more than 500 civilians were killed and 760 others wounded due to fighting in the country during the first three months this year.

It urged the government and anti-government elements to do more to protect civilians from harm, especially in view of the looming threat posed to all Afghans by the COVID-19 pandemic.
