The number of deaths from coronavirus in Italy increased by 566 on Monday, bringing the total death toll to more than 20,000.

Iran Press/Europe: Almost half of the deaths (280) were registered in Lombardy, the northern region worst affected by the virus, according to The Guardian.

The civil protection authority said the number of people who are currently infected rose by 1,363 (1.3%) to 103,616, in a further sign that the curve is flattening. The number of intensive care beds in use continues to decline (-83 on Monday), as does the number of people hospitalized for the virus.

To date, there have been more than 159,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Italy, including 20,465 victims and 35,435 survivors.
