4.6 Richter earthquake jolts Qotur

Khoy (IP) - The Earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shook district of, Qotur County of Khoy, West Azerbaijan Province on Sunday.

Iran Press/Iran News: According to the Iranian Seismological Center, the Earthquake took place at 6:53 A.M on Sunday, at latitude 44.43, longitude 38.46 and at a depth of 6 km.

The epicenter was reported at the 115 kilometer-distance from Urmia, 168 kilometer-distance from Tabriz and 2 –kilometer distance from Qotur, at a depth of 6 kilometers

According to General Manager of Crisis management in the West Azarbaijan Governorate, this unexpected incident did not cause any damage.

Two relatively strong quakes rocked Khoy county in west Azarbaijan, wounding 104 people and damaging 4,500 settlements in late February.

Khoy county is located in the North of West Azarbaijan province and Qotur district is located on the border between Iran and Turkey.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
