US sanctions, perfect example of crime against humanity

Iran's Ambassador to the UN Office in Geneva said that the US sanctions are a clear example of crimes against humanity and must be stopped.

Iran PressEurope: In a session at the WHO on coronavirus, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Esmaeil Baqaei Hamaneh said that the cruel and illegal US sanctions are an obvious example of a crime against humanity because the sanctions are killing innocent people and depriving Iranian citizens of access to medicine and medical care.

At the meeting, Baqaei Hamaneh also outlined the actions of the Iranian health system to combat and contain the virus, describing it as a common enemy of humanity.

He called for global cohesion, solidarity, and cooperation to contain this danger.

"The devastating impact of US sanctions is not only a major cause of human rights abuses against the Iranian people but also a serious threat to the control and eradication of the coronavirus in the West Asian region," the diplomat added.

Baqaei Hamaneh believed that the imposition of new US sanctions in recent days while Iran is wrangling to contain the coronavirus, demonstrates the severity of the hypocrisy and the depth of irresponsibility of US officials and it needs the international community to take decisive action to lift these sanctions.
