Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif

Tehran (IP) - Following the consultation of international officials and institutions with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the sideline of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, members of the European Council on Foreign Relations met with Zarif and discussed bilateral ties, as well as regional issues.

Iran Press/Europe: The meeting also focused on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and European commitments in the Nuclear Deal.

In another meeting, Iran's Foreign Minister met his Ukrainian counterpart, and the two men discussed the Ukrainian passenger plane crash, on 8 January 2020 a tragedy which was the result of human error. The two foreign ministers also discussed the two countries' cooperation in the investigation of the air disaster.

The two ministers also discussed efforts to heal the grievances of the families of the victims of this disaster.

The Ukrainian airliner was inadvertently struck by a missile on 8 January shortly after it left Tehran en route to Kiev.

Iran admitted it had shot down the Ukrainian plane by mistake. All 176 passengers on board, mostly Iranian, were killed in the disaster. But nationals of five other countries, namely Canada, Britain, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Sweden were also on board the plane.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also has met Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada and his Canadian counterpart, Czech foreign Minister, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi and Croatia Foreign Minister in the German city of Munich.
