Russia condemned the US sanctions on Venezuela, insisting that Washington's sanctions against Caracas have gone beyond all inhuman and non-constructive limits.

Iran PressEurope: Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reiterated Thursday evening that the US actions on Venezuela are legally unacceptable.

The United States has repeatedly imposed sanctions on Venezuelan individuals and entities.

Elliott Abrams, the US special envoy for Venezuelan affairs, has recently announced that President Donald Trump will continue to exert maximum pressure on Venezuela until President Nicolas Maduro is ousted.

The United States has been seeking a coup in recent months while supporting Venezuelan opposition.

Venezuela has plunged into a political crisis after Juan Guaido, the leader of the opposition-controlled National Assembly, declared himself interim president in January.

Shortly after Guaido took an oath swearing himself in before his supporters, US President recognized him as the country's leader. In response, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro broke off diplomatic ties with the US and gave American diplomats 72 hours to get out of his country.
