Tehran (IP) - Iran's Prosecutor General has called for a thorough investigation into the crash of a Ukrainian passenger plane near Tehran last Wednesday morning.

Iran Press/Iran News: Following the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran said that the Ukrainian plane was targeted unintentionally in a tragic accident due to human error, Iran's Prosecutor General ordered the Tehran military prosecutor to conduct a thorough and swift investigation into the incident.

Mohammad Jafar Montazeri called on Tehran's military prosecutor to identify all those responsible for this painful incident and inform him of the outcome of the investigations.

In a statement on Saturday morning, President Hassan Rouhani noted that the country "deeply regrets this disastrous mistake."

"Armed Forces’ internal investigation has concluded that regrettably, missiles fired due to human error caused the horrific crash of the Ukrainian plane and death of 176 innocent people. Investigations are continuing into this tragic incident and those deemed responsible will be prosecuted in courts of law," Rouhani said on his official Twitter account.  101/211/205
