Iran to sue US under international law for assassination of Lt Gen Soleimani

Iranian Foreign Ministry has initiated various legal measures at an international level to hold the US to account in the brutal assassination of ئartyred Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.

Iran Press/Iran News: Iran on Friday in a letter to the United Nations and UN security council stated unequivocally that it reserves the right to self-defense under international law after the assassination of Commander of IRGC's Quds Force, Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.

Lieutenant General Soleimani was assassinated along with several senior members of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Friday morning, 3 January, at Baghdad International airport.

Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on Saturday said the Donald Trump administration is responsible for the consequences of military action which assassinated top IRGC Quds Force Commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

Iranian Foreign Minister earlier in the day in an interview with IRIB, insisted that the assassination was a cowardly act of terrorism saying: "The Americans have targeted one of Iran's top military officials. We are not blackmailed by the Americans and we reserve the right to respond at the right time and right place. This attack will certainly not bring about security for the American people, as the financial market and oil prices indicate."

On Friday, following the announcement of the martyrdom of Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani, an extraordinary meeting was held in Foreign Minister Zarif's office, attended by senior executives and diplomats of the Foreign Ministry.

According to the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Seyyed Abas Mousavi, the Charge d'affairs of Switzerland's embassy in Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry to hear Iran's strongly-worded protest in relation to the US assassination of senior IRGC Commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani. The Swiss Charge d'affairs was told to convey Iran's protest to Washington.

Zarif in a message on Twitter on Friday described the US act of assassinating IRGC commander Qassem Soleimani as "dangerous and foolish".

The US bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism.

The US' act of international terrorism, targeting and assassinating General Soleimani—the most effective force fighting Daesh (ISIS), Al Nusrah Front, Al Qaeda, etc.—is extremely dangerous and foolish escalation. The US bears all responsibility for the consequences of its rogue actions. The US' act of international terrorism, targeting & assassinating General Soleimani—The most effective force fighting Daesh (ISIS), Al Nusrah, Al Qaeda et al—is extremely dangerous and a foolish escalation. 101/211/205
