Fuel smuggling seized and 16 Malaysian nationals arrested

1.3 million liters of smuggled fuel have been seized near Abu Musa island in the Persian Gulf by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and 16 Malaysian crew members have been arrested.

Iran PressIran news: The IRGC naval commander for the region, Brigadier General Ali Ozmaei, confirmed the seizure of contraband fuel near Abu Musa Island, saying 16 Malaysian nationals have been arrested.

“This is the sixth ship smuggling fuel that the IRGC navy has confiscated,” added Ozmaei.

In September, Iran seized a boat and arrested 12 Filipino crewmen from a suspected fuel-smuggling ring in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) detained a foreign tanker in the Persian Gulf waters on July 14 for allegedly smuggling contraband fuel.
