Arak (IP) - The Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation stressed that the Arak heavy water research reactor has been made indigenous through the efforts of Iranian scientists and engineers, even though its original design was Russian.

Iran Press/Iran News: Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Arak Nuclear Facilities, after Arak nuclear reactor's secondary circuit becoming operational, Ali Akbar Salehi said: "The design on which this reactor was built on, was an old project in Russia, and our experts, in collaboration with Russian experts, reviewed it and since then the massive project began."

Ali Akbar Salehi stressed that although the initial plan was Russian, the subsequent work was done by Iranian experts, scientists, and engineers in our country.

"That design, because it was outdated, would not have the necessary output to meet our daily needs. The reason is that the neutron population of the former design reactor was relatively low, we could not produce much of the required radionuclide through the former design," he said.
