Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami

Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami has said Basij has grown into a strong and productive tree, a source of peace for the Iranian people and a thorn in the side of the enemies.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Defence Minister Amir Hatami on Monday in a message on the occasion of the anniversary of establishment of Basij (volunteer) forces said: "The Basij Organization is a perfect role model for young people in other Islamic countries."

He noted, "Over the past 40 years, Basij has become a strong and productive tree which is a source of peace for the Iranian people and a veritable thorn in the flesh of the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Commenting further Defence Minister Hatami said: "Iran's achievements in the defence industry and its valuable achievements over the past 40 years have been attained by inspiration of Basij volunteer forces."

The 5th of Azar (November 26) is the anniversary of the establishment of Basij (volunteer) forces. The late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace) called for the formation of Basij in November 1979, during the Iranian Revolution.  205/211
