Iranian Oil Minister said that the newly-discovered oilfield in Khuzestan Province, called ‘Namavaran’, has a capacity of around 53 billion barrels of in-place oil.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh made the remarks on Monday, saying that the new discovery adds to the previous estimates of the field.

“The new oilfield has added 22 billion barrels of crude oil to the previous estimates of the field, which stood at 31 billion barrels,” he added.

Zanganeh went on to say that the field is now estimated to hold a total of 53 billion barrels of crude oil in place, adding that there is a possibility of the field’s continuation southwards.

Assuming a 10% recovery rate in the field, the Oil Minister added that Namavaran oilfield will add 2.2 billion barrels of crude oil to the country’s crude oil production capacity.

He also stressed that Namavaran is the second-largest oilfield in Iran following the Asmari Oil Layer in Gachsaran with 54 billion barrels of oil in place.
