Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the door to talks on preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is open and Iran has taken the fourth nuclear step because its rights under the deal were violated.

Iran Press/Iran News: Upon arrival in Turkey late on Friday, he added that Iran took the fourth step to pull back further from its commitments, saying Tehran had earlier announced that if the other parties' measures do not yield results, it would definitely take the next incremental step.

Zarif who is currently in Turkey to attend the 24th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization’s (ECO) Foreign Ministers in Antalya, Turkey added: "President Hassan Rouhani officially declared Iran's move to scale down commitments in response to violations of the deal by the US and EU and noted that Iran will remain open for talks on JCPOA," Iran Press reported.

Zarif reiterated: "We started talks from the first day and did not say no to the talks. We will hold talks with the parties willing to help preserve the JCPOA."

This week the Iranian government took a fourth step in reducing its adherence to its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, which has been unraveling since US president, Donald Trump withdrew the US unilaterally from the deal last year, and reimposed illegal and unilateral sanctions against Tehran.

Zarif further noted that he will hold talks with his counterparts on the sidelines of the 24th meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization’s (ECO) Foreign Ministers slated to open on Saturday.

Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is a regional economic organization made up of 10 countries. ECO was established by Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey in 1985. 101/211
