AEOI elaborates on IAEA inspector being stopped

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said in a statement that it has prevented an inspector of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from entering the Natanz nuclear facility because of a concern she might be carrying ‘suspicious material’.

Iran Press/Iran news: According to the AEOI statement, last week, Iran denied the entrance of one of the IAEA’s inspectors to Natanz nuclear site.

The reason for the move was a concern that the inspector might be carrying suspicious material, Iran Press reported.

Screening equipment at the Natanz site showed a warning sign when the inspector passed through so her equipment was searched.

She was denied entry as a result, the IAEA was subsequently informed about the incident by Iran and that the acceptance of the inspector is revoked.

Iran has also requested that the IAEA cooperate in the investigation and the Agency approved that in a written response.

As a result of the cancellation of her inspection, the inspector left Iran for Vienna without completing her mission. Investigations are ongoing and the Permanent Representative of Iran to the IAEA is due to present a full report to the Board of Governors on Thursday.

A meeting of the IAEA’s 35-nation Board of Governors on Thursday is scheduled to discuss the Iran topic.

Earlier on Wednesday, a cylinder containing about 2,000kg of uranium hexafluoride (uf6), was transferred to Iran's Fordow Enrichment Complex under the supervision of IAEA inspectors.

An IAEA spokesman said that the inspectors of the agency are on the ground in Iran to monitor Iran’s injecting uranium gas into centrifuges at its Fordow site.
