Monday 4 November is the National Day of Fighting the Arrogant Powers, and it is also National Student Day in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Exactly 40 years ago, on 4 November 1979, University students following the path of the founder of the  Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace), scaled the walls of the former US embassy building in Tehran and took over the embassy. The action was in protest at numerous US plots and conspiracies against the fledgling Islamic Republic, which at that time was less than a year old.

Every year, on 4 November the Iranian nation commemorates this glorious day by holding national rallies and marches, displaying their Islamic solidarity and conveying the message of Iran's Islamic Revolution to the world, namely "Independence, Freedom, and the Islamic Republic".

4 November is also a noteworthy red-letter day in the history of the Islamic Republic. Three important events happened on this day. Firstly, on 4 November 1964, Imam Khomeini was exiled to Turkey by the hated Pahlavi regime.

Secondly, on 4 November 1978, in the middle of the revolution that was happening in Iran, the former autocratic and dictatorial Pahlavi regime ordered the army to shoot and kill university students who had organized a sit-in and were demonstrating against the Shah's hated regime. Thus this day has been designated as National Student Day in Iran.

And finally, on 4 November 1979 university students following the path of the founder of the  Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace), scaled the walls of the former US embassy building in Tehran and took over the embassy, popularly known as the "Den of Espionage". The late Imam Khomeini called it "a second Revolution".

The US embassy had become a centre of spying and espionage activities, and plots were being hatched against the newly-established Islamic Republic, and thus the students took over the US embassy building.
