Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri

Referring to the overthrow of the US drone in the south of the country, Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Force said that Iran's deterrence power kept the US from taking any action after Iran shot down an American unmanned aerial vehicle.

Iran Press/Iran News: On the celebration of armed forces researchers on Wednesday at Higher National Defense University, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri said that: “The Americans who have committed many crimes against humanity claimed to have made a decision to take action against us after the downing of a Global Hawk drone, but stopped short of carrying out the decision under the pretext that several people would be killed as a result of military action against Iran, it was because of our deterrence power.”

He went on to add that: "These are the result of the Iranian thought and the commands of the Revolution Leader. Despite all problems, Iran enjoys great capabilities in the defense sector and the Iranian nation will not let eruption of another war."

On June 20, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) public relations' office announced that the air defense of IRGC Aerospace Force has shot down a US Northrop Grumman RQ-4 Global Hawk drone near the Kouh-e Mobarak region, which sits in the central district of Jask County after it violated Iranian airspace.

US President, Donald Trump reacted sharply to the shooting down the US drone in the Persian Gulf, saying that 'Iran made a very big mistake'. However, he claimed afterward that he aborted a military strike because it could have killed 150 people.
