Iran Press/Middle East: The office of the United Nations' humanitarian coordinator for Yemen said in a statement on Sunday that as many as 40 people have been killed and 260 injured in Yemen's southern port city of Aden since Aug. 8, when the latest round of fighting broke out.
"It is heart-breaking that during Eid al-Adha, families are mourning the death of their loved ones instead of celebrating together in peace and harmony," the statement added according to AFP.
The so-called 'Security Belt Forces', which is the military wing of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which is backed by the UAE, clashed on Wednesday with the country's fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi guards, who are supported by Saudi Arabia in Aden.
On Saturday, the Security Belt Forces seized military camps, government buildings, and the Hadi's palace in Aden.
Afterward, Saudi forces said they struck STC forces in Aden after they seized control of Hadi's palace.
The militant infighting in Aden has exposed divisions within the Saudi-led coalition.
Both the UAE-backed Security Belt Forces and the Saudi-backed pro-Hadi militants used to serve the Riyadh-led coalition and have been engaged in a bloody military campaign against Yemen since 2015 aimed at restoring Hadi's power.
Recently, an informed source from the leaders of the so-called 'Southern Transitional Council' has revealed that the UAE is reforming some aspects of the politics of southern Yemen, pledging to Iran to undo some political changes that have occurred there. The pledge was made as part of UAE's recent agreements with Iran.
