Tehran (IP) - A member of Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Seyyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini, has emphasised that America wants to keep the war in Yemen going, in order to fuel regional tensions in the Middle East, and also to sell more expensive weaponry to Saudi Arabia.

Iran Press/Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, a member of Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Seyyed Hossein Naghavi Hosseini stressed that the Americans have set up a new quagmire to entangle regional countries, particularly Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Naghavi Hosseini pointedly added: "This quagmire is of course, the war in Yemen. It has been going on for nearly five years now. The UAE has decided to cut its losses and gradually withdraw its forces from Yemen, and even Saudi Arabia is re-thinking its military presence in Yemen, and they want to extricate themselves from this quagmire. But the Americans want to keep the Yemen war going, by encouraging and egging on the Saudis, and by arming the Saudis."

The spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission reiterated by saying: "America benefits in two ways from the Yemen war. Firstly the Yemen war fuels regional tensions. And secondly, the Americans can make huge profits by selling expensive weaponry [to regional countries]. This is why the Americans want the Yemen war to continue. It is very important for the US to sell weaponry, it is definitely in their interest. This why the Trump administration has once again approved the selling of expensive and sophisticated weaponry to Saudi Arabia."

The senior Iranian MP added: "The Americans want to sell as much arms as they can to Saudi Arabia, and hence it is in America's interest if the war in Yemen continues."
