An Iranian International Institute for Human Rights, 'Solh-e-Ziba', has called for the immediate release of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria Sheikh Ibrahim Zekzaki, and for urgent medical services and treatment to be offered to the imprisoned sheikh.

Iran Press/Iran news: In a letter to the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, 'Solh-e-Ziba' pointed to egregious violations of the fundamental rights of Sheikh Zakzaky, pacifist leader of Nigerian Muslims, saying that in accordance with article 99 of the United Nations Charter, you should inform the Security Council of the imminent danger of peace and security.

Solh-e-Ziba said, "The physical condition of Sheikh Zakzaki in prison is a violation of all the basic rights of a human being in accordance with Articles 1,2,9,10,5,7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its two Covenants," Iran Press reported.

"Therefore, in the context of your duties and in order to safeguard the human rights of Sheikh Zakzaki, you must use all the legal capacity of the United Nations and, with all due diligence on compliance with Article 14 of the Declaration and its footnotes, ask the Nigerian government to end this terrible crime as soon as possible," the Iranian Institute added.

"Given the legal and international capacities available to you such as the High Commissioner for Human Rights, you should task the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet to promptly investigate this matter, and Sheikh Zakzaki's state of health in prison," 'Solh-e-Ziba' asked.

Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaki has been imprisoned since December 2015. In 2016, Nigeria’s federal high court ordered his unconditional release from jail following a trial, but the government has so far refused to set him free, despite the high court ruling.

Zakzaki was charged for unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, allegations that were rejected by Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

IMN spokesman Ibrahim Musa, emphasizing that Zakzaki should have been granted bail due to his poor health. Musa said as long as the government keeps him in jail, protests will continue in Abuja and across the country. 101/211/213
