Khorramshahr (IP) - Volunteer forces and IRGC personnel are continuing construction of flood barriers so vital for flood prevention in the cities of Khorramshahr and Abadan in southwestern Khuzestan Province.

Iran Press/Iran news: With efforts done by people, volunteer forces and Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel, floodwaters have been prevented from entering the residential districts of Khorramshahr and Abadan in southwestern Khuzestan province.

A couple of days ago, the world's longest flood barrier, a five-Kilometre-long barrier made up of sandbags has been built by citizens of South Western city of Hamidiyeh in Khuzestan province, Iran Press reported.

Heavy rainfall across Iran since 19 March has caused flooding across Iran, including Southwestern Khuzestan province.

The cities of Hamidiyeh, Shadegan and Ahvaz are among the flood-hit areas in Khuzestan.

The cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr, through which tributaries of 'Bahmanshir' and 'Arvand' rivers flow, are still in danger of flash floods with water levels in the two rivers steadily rising and threatening an overflow.

Many flood barriers have been built across these rivers and construction of new barriers is underway. 101/211/205
