Iran Press/ Europe: The request for French nationality by Stanley Johnson, 79, was revealed by his daughter Rachel in a book published last week.
Stanley Johnson, a former MEP in the early 1980s, who voted Remain in the referendum, has requested to become a French citizen as his mother Irene was born in Versailles, Euro Weekly News reported.
The Sunday Times has claimed that a source close to the family told the paper that Mr. Johnson has applied so that his grandchildren can live and work in the EU after Brexit.
Like his son Boris Johnson, the senior Johnson is often outspoken and recently challenged government orders to stay at home as much as possible to avoid spreading the new Coronavirus.
The government has ordered the closing of pubs, restaurants, theatres, cinemas, sports halls and leisure centers from Friday evening to fight the spread of COVID-19 which has killed 233 people in the country, at the latest count. 212/ 104
