Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that a high-ranking Iranian delegation arrived in Kabul this morning to investigate the May 2 incident on the Afghan-Iranian border and met with acting Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

Iran PressAsia: The Afghan Foreign Ministry added that the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also transported a consignment of medical supplies and equipment to Kabul to fight the coronavirus on his carrier.

Atmar thanked Iran for its medical assistance and other cooperation during the difficult period of the fight against Corona with the Afghan people and government.

During a meeting with Baharvand, the Afghan acting Foreign Minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar discussed the various stages of the Afghan delegation's investigation into the incident on May 2 case and the evidence obtained and called on the Iranian government to pay more attention to joint investigations, saying, "The purpose of this investigation is to get the facts, to investigate those behind the incident legally and to take the necessary measures to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future, which may affect the relations between the two friendly and neighboring countries.

 In this meeting, Mohsen Baharvand also expressed his regret over the incident and condemned it.

Referring to the fraternal and good relations between the two nations and the government, he added that this action is not acceptable by the Iranian people and government and the government is committed to jointly investigate and prosecute the incident with the Afghan delegation to ensure justice.

Baharvand said that the evidence found by the Afghan investigation team had been handed over to him and that the relevant channels of his government would also investigate and the results would be communicated to the Afghan side.

Both sides focused on the results of the investigation and legal action against those behind the incident and discussed bilateral frameworks aimed at strengthening relations and strategies that could prevent its recurrence in the future.

Afghan media reported on May 2 that more than 40 Afghan nationals had been detained by Iranian troops after entering Iran illegally and forced to throw themselves into the Harirod River.

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly denied the occurrence of this incident on the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran and added that no such incident has occurred in the territory of Iran.
