Ouagadougou (IP)- Like their brothers and sisters in Islam, Shi'a community of Burkina Faso commemorated in Ouagadougou the 10th day of Ashura on the memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.

Iran PressAfrica: The occasion brought together hundreds of people at the Al Mustafa Institute, the Iranian ambassador to Burkina Faso graced the event.


For the local Shi'a community, Ashura represents a symbol of fight against oppression.
The atmosphere was filled with emotion at the Al Mustafa Institute, the local branch of the International University of the same name based in Qum in Iran.


This is where hundreds of Shi'a Muslims gathered to remember the sacrifice “in the name of Islam”, done by Imam Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Mohamed (PUBH), as well as his companions and his family.

Among the speaker Boureima Konaté, member of the higher council of the Ahlul Bayt community in the country said this 10th day of Muharram marks the “painful” anniversary of the battle of Karbala where Imam Hussein and his associates were “massacred”.
The Shi'a Muslims of Burkina Faso have agreed to meet again next year to once again commemorate “the victory of good over evil”.203
