Abidjan (IP)- The Shi'a community of Côte d'Ivoire commemorated the 10th day of the first month of the Islamic calendar Ashura today.

Iran PressAfrica: The community seized the opportunity to conduct a blood donation operation in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Center (Cnts). The ceremony took place at the Al Zahraa cultural complex in Abidjan, the capital city. Hundreds bags of blood were collected. The aim is to help fill the deficit of blood stock in the country.


In an Interview with Iranpress Cho Achraf, a member of the Al Gadir association said this is carried out in accordance with the spirit of the day: “every year we organize a blood donation on the 10th day of Ashura. This is to honor the martyr, Imam Al Hussein. The aim is to strengthen the Ivorian and Lebanese brotherhood in Ivory Coast”.
Imam Moustapha Shaadaane added from the community that "through the self-sacrifice of Imam Al Hussein, he taught us charity, sharing, helping our brothers in humanity. And that’s on what we are today. We learnt from our imam how to give to save the lives of others and we try to follow on his steps.”
Dr Joël doctor from the National Blood Transfusion Center the last to speak operation that this event has become so far an annual event. "Every year, they invite us to donate their blood in order to build up a large stock of blood products to be able to meet the crucial needs in demand for blood products by the population.”203
