Tehran (IP) -The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi has said with the 60-day window of opportunity has drawn to a close and Iran is now taking the second reciprocal step, with uranium enrichment at higher than 3.67 percent level will commence in the next few hours.

Iran press/Iran news: The spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran Behrouz Kamalvandi has emphasized that Iran has informed the representative of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Tehran of a change in the Design Information Questionnaire known as  DIQ, and that uranium enrichment at higher than 3.67 percent level will commence over the next few hours, reported Iran Press.

Kamalvandi also commented on a new nuclear reactor, and emphasized that the modernized nuclear reactor benefits from more advanced technology compared to the old one. He also said the neutron flux in the new reactor located in Arak is significantly more compared to the old reactor, making it much more useful for making radioisotopes for medicine, and other peaceful nuclear applications.

Kamalvandi also said the Tehran research reactor uses 20 percent enriched nuclear fuel, but Iran has no plans for the time being to enrich uranium to 20 percent level. Kamalvandi said we have sufficient stock of nuclear fuel for the Tehran research reactor, and so 20 percent enrichment is not needed for the time being.

Kamalvandi also emphasised that the current centrifuges are sufficient to increase uranium enrichment and there is no need for additional centrifuges or cascades of centrifuges at the present time.203/211
