Iranian oil tanker, Adrian Darya 1 is heading to Turkey

Iranian oil tanker Adrian Darya 1, formerly Grace 1, is heading for the Turkish port city of Mersin.

Iran Press/Europe: According to Automatic Identification System (AIS), the Iranian oil tanker has changed its destination from Kalamata, Greece and now is sailing towards Turkey, estimated to arrive in Mersin on Aug 31.

On July 4, Adrian Darya 1 was seized by British Royal Marines in the Strait of Gibraltar, under the pretext that the tanker had been suspected of transferring oil to Syria in violation of the European Union's unilateral sanctions against the Arab country.

Tehran rejected the claim that the tanker was heading to Syria, slamming the seizure as “maritime piracy.”

Despite all US pressures, the authorities of Gibraltar have rejected the US request to extend the seizure of the oil tanker, eventually ordered the release of the illegally-detained tanker after a five-week standoff in mid-August. 101/218
