Greece (IP)- The 45th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran was celebrated in Athens, the capital of Greece, with the presence of political, social, and cultural figures.

Iran PressEurope: The representative of the archbishop of Greece, the head of the Archaeological Museum of Greece, the head of the Muslim community of Greece, the head of the Shia community of Greece, a group of university professors, journalists and the bishop of the Armenian Church of Greece attended the celebration of the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

Malek Hossein Givzad, Iran's ambassador to Greece, referring to the ancient civilization of Iran and Greece and the thousands of years of relations between the two countries, said: "Iran and Greece have played an important role in the region and the ground is ready for the development of relations in the political, economic, cultural and social fields of the two countries."

The Iranian ambassador in Greece also pointed to the crimes committed by the Israeli regime in Palestine with the support of some Western countries, and called on the European countries to react against the clear cruelty of the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people.

On 1 February 1979, Ayatollah Khomeini returned to Tehran after a period of exile in France imposed by the Shah of Iran, Muhammad Reza Pahlavi. Several million people went to Mehrabad International Airport to welcome Imam Khomeini.

The event marks the Fajr decade which is a ten-day celebration of the return of the Late Founder of the Islamic Revolution to Iran in 1979.

The annual celebration is held between 1 and 11 February. Its beginning coincides with the date of Imam Khomeini's arrival in  Iran. 

Every year on the eve of the 22 Bahman (Iranian calendar) the embassies of the Islamic Republic of Iran celebrate the victory of the Islamic Revolution by holding ceremonies and hosting guests.
