Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has stressed that EU should boost its efforts regarding the JCPOA.

Speaking on Saturday, foreign minister Zarif said:  "Regarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), EU is trying to do some positive work, but it should boost its' efforts.  What has happened after our meeting with EU heads was that a statement was released and the European Summit has been held. Also some decisions have been made regarding it."

Iran's foreign minister added: "The EU's so-called blocking statute is in process but we believe that it is not enough and Europeans should do more.  We are ready to see how Europeans would stick to their promises and turn it to action."

US President Donald Trump announced US withdrawal from the JCPOA on 8  May, and vowed to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose “the highest level” of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

Tehran has said it would make a decision on its future role in the nuclear agreement in the coming weeks following negotiations with the other signatories to the deal.

EU powers have scrambled to save the JCPOA and protect their businesses in Iran, after re-imposition of US sanctions.
