Babolsar (IP) - The conference marking the ‘Caspian Sea National Day’ was held focusing on environmental protection of the sea and its tourism with the attendance of the littoral states’ ambassadors.

Iran Press/Iran news: Kazakhstan Ambassador to Tehran Askhat Orazbay and Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan attended the conference marking the ‘Caspian Sea National Day’ held in Babolsar, in the northern province of Mazandaran, Iran on Thursday,  while stressing  environmental protection of the sea and abiding by the related  laws.

“The Caspian Sea littoral states should abide by the related conventions of environmental, political and legal nature and pay attention to implementing them,” said Askhat Orazbay, reported Iran Press.

 Since 2006, the Caspian Sea littoral states have appointed Aug 12 as the day of the Caspian Sea and it is being marked by holding a conference annually.

The Caspian Sea is the largest inland body of water in the world and accounts for 40 to 44 percent of the total lacustrine waters of the world. The coastlines of the Caspian are shared by Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Turkmenistan.
