Indian troops from across the frontier in the disputed Kashmir region have shelled the Pakistani-controlled region, killing a 70-year-old man and his daughter.

Iran Press/Asia: Pakistani Local police chief, Arshad Naqvi told AP on Monday that the man was visiting his daughter on Sunday, trying to take her to a safer place when he targeted by Indian troops shelling and both killed.

An Indian army spokesman, Col. Rajesh Kalia, blamed Pakistani troops for initiating fire on Sunday, saying four villagers in Indian-controlled Kashmir were wounded.

Tensions escalated last month after India launched an airstrike inside Pakistan, targeting militants blamed for 14 Feb suicide bombing in Indian-controlled Kashmir that killed 40 police forces.

India says attackers are harboring in Pakistan controlled Kashmir.

While Indian warplane was operating in Pakistan controlled Kashmir, Pakistan air defense retaliated at the time by shooting down two Indian planes and capturing a pilot, who was later returned to India.

Islamabad has rejected India's suggestion it was linked to the attack, which it called a matter of 'grave concern.'
