Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of legal and international affairs, Gholamhussein Dehghani

Iran's deputy foreign minister in charge of legal and international affairs said the US sanctions have effectively halted the import of medicines needed for treatment of victims of chemical weapons.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking on Monday at the 24th annual conference of member states of Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) at the Hague, the Netherlands, Gholamhussein Dehghani said international aid to victims of chemical weapons is insignificant, adding that US unilateral sanctions, which make it impossible to import medicines for treatment of chemical victims are shameful and against all humanitarian principles.

Dehghani urged the international community to condemn and confront America's unilateral sanctions because they had made it impossible to import medicine for chemical victims, something which was against the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).

Dehghani also urged member states of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) to do much more to help victims of chemical weapons.

In further comments, Iran's deputy foreign minister said the United States of America poses a serious threat to international peace and security, given the fact that it is the only country in the world which possesses huge stockpiles of very deadly chemical weapons.

Dehghani said America's arsenal of chemical weapons must be removed and destroyed as soon as possible and the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) should carefully supervise and oversee the destruction of all of America's chemical weapons, before the agreed deadline.

The 24th annual conference of member states of Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) at the Hague started on Monday 25 November and will continue until Friday 29 November.
