Nearly 3,000 trucks remained stranded in southeastern England after France closed the border over fears of a potentially more contagious coronavirus variant.

Iran Press/Europe: British supermarkets warned of shortages of some goods just days before Christmas, and even if talks between the two nations resulted in the border being unsealed, the chaos will take days to resolve.

According to CNN, on Tuesday morning, police officers stood at the entrance of the English port of Dover with a large sign behind them that read "French Borders Closed."

Police have instructed some drivers to get a coronavirus test at nearby Manston Airport in the hopes that a deal could be reached by the end of the day between French and British authorities.

More than 40 governments have barred travelers from Britain, suspending flights and cutting off trade routes in scenes reminiscent of the frenzied early days of the pandemic.
