Iran Press/America: Majid Takht-e Ravanchi says the US failure to give assurance about Tehran's enjoyment of full economic benefits of the 2015 deal is the main obstacle to its revival.
Takht-e Ravanchi remarked in an address to the 10th Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty Review Conference. He said the US withdrawal from the deal in May 2018 and re-imposition of unilateral sanctions prevented Iran's enjoyment of the deal's economic benefits.
Iran's envoy also said the Islamic country has been negotiating with other parties to the agreement to resume full implementation of the accord.
Takht-e Ravanchi went on to say that Iran would return to full implementation of the deal when the US makes the right decision.
Since the US withdrawal, the remaining parties have held several talks to revive the deal. The talks failed to make breakthroughs due to the US's failure to show goodwill and excessive demands. A new round of talks is due to start in the Austrian capital. Iran's top negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani has called on the US to seize the latest opportunity.
IAEA should fulfill its duties
Takht-e Ravanchi stated: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is as steadfast a supporter of nuclear disarmament as it is committed to non-proliferation and supports the non-discriminatory and impartial implementation of the safeguards system by the International Atomic Energy Agency."
Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations further stated: "Iran insists that IAEA carry out its duties professionally and put away pressure from third parties and especially baseless accusations from spy agencies."
Criticizing double standards
In line with the principled positions of Tehran, the senior diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran reminded that the provisions of non-proliferation should be implemented universally and without exception.
Takht-e Ravanchi stated: "Unfortunately, as a result of double standards in implementing non-proliferation provisions, the nuclear weapons of the Israel regime, which were produced with the support and assistance of the United States, are still considered a serious threat to the security of the Middle East countries that are members of the treaty."
He stated: "This terrorist regime has assassinated several innocent nuclear scientists. This occupying and aggressor regime, in an attempt to demand ransom, has recently threatened to attack peaceful nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards in the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Warning to Israel regime
Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations said: "To prevent a severe crisis for the treaty, the member states, in addition to condemning this threat to use force, must take an appropriate preventive measure against this illegal regime."
He emphasized: "Undoubtedly, in case of committing such a stupid aggression, this regime will pay a heavy price. Furthermore, our best interests as a treaty party would be at stake, and the Review Conference must urgently address the threat posed by the Israel regime."
Takht-e Ravanchi continued: "The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly supports the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East and expresses its deep concern over the continuous and long delay in the 1995 resolution and the 2010 action plan regarding the Middle East."
He stated: "Undoubtedly, until the danger of the secret nuclear weapons program of the Israel regime is not dealt with, the danger of further proliferation of nuclear weapons in the Middle East will remain."
After nearly two and a half years of postponement, the 10th Review Conference of the Treaty on the Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons resumed activities with representatives of 188 member states at the United Nations Secretariat.
