Sham-e Ghariban refers to the evening of the Muharram10 (i.e. the Day of A'shura ) when Shias mourn and lament the martyrdom of Imam Hossein (AS) and the tribulations and tragedies that befell the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) It takes place in every corner of Iran and the world, and is commemorated with special and unique rituals. Some of the related rituals include setting fire to symbolic tents (that represent the tents of the camp of Imam Hossein (AS) burned by the enemies and lighting candles.
