Tehran (IP) - Iranian President-elect says defending human rights is the basis of the domestic and foreign policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran PressIran news: In a telephone call with Vatican Prime Minister Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raisi congratulated Eid al-Adha and said: "Eid al-Adha can be considered a day of interaction between the Abrahamic religions as a basis for consultation and dialogue between religions."

Emphasizing that defending human rights is the basis of the domestic and foreign policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Raisi said: "I believe that according to the teachings of the Abrahamic religions, Iran and the Vatican must stand by the oppressed people of the world and against the oppressive powers.

Raisi pointed out: "The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in supporting the oppressed people of Palestine and fighting the Zionist occupation, defending the Yemeni people, fighting Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria, and protecting the followers of Jesus Christ in Iraq is rooted in our religious principles in support of human rights.

Raisi described terrorism and sanctions as two tools of the arrogant powers to impose oppressive policies and said: "Terrorism and sanctions act as two scissors in "violation of human rights" and "extinction of human existence," and today we, the followers of the Abrahamic religions, have a duty to work together to confront them."

Vatican Prime Minister Cardinal Pietro Parolin congratulated Raisi and wished him success in his presidency and said: "I hope that during your term of office, we will see the improvement and development of friendly and constructive relations between Tehran and the Vatican."

The Prime Minister of the Vatican stated: "Today, we have an important task to create peace and stability in the world, to work together to witness a peaceful atmosphere in the world."
