Iran Press/ Africa: Speaking at a Quds Day program at the Ahlul Bait Mosque in Cape Town, Minister Ronald Lamola said South Africa presented its case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) out of an obligation to shoulder its responsibility.
In an interview with Iran Press, the top-ranking South African official said, "The next step is to take the matter to its logical conclusion, dealing with the substance of the matter, particularly the fact that indeed there is a genocide that the court must (be) found. As we are aware, in the first provisional measures, the finding is that there is plausible genocide, which means that it's not final, but it must be finalized by the substantive case, which we are currently preparing and exchanging documents with the courts and the state of Israel."
"And also, the current step that we have also taken is to request the court to seek an agent ceasefire. And we are happy that the United Nations Security Council has taken that step. And it is a step in the right direction, because the people of Gaza, the West Bank, and Palestine need a reprieve, and we hope that that should be permanent."
Minister Lamola however regretted that the Zionist regime has failed so far to abide by the provisional measures issued by the ICJ in January.
Iran Press questioned the minister on the Israeli entity’s escalation with its attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria and the targeting of international aid workers in the Gaza Strip.
“It's a defiance of the court order, the six provisional measures. And we are not – it does not dim our spirit, because we can see the friends of Israel now across the globe beginning to exact the necessary pressure.
They are friends, powerful friends like the US, saying that they must not continue, they must cease fire, and Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and so forth. So it does show that the work that we are doing is beginning to change the consciousness of the global community, which is what we need to exact the necessary pressure for the state of Israel to cease what it is doing.”
