Iran Press/Iran news: Following the decisive response and legitimate defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran in reaction to the terrorist attack by the Zionist regime on April 1 2024 targeting the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus and resulting in the martyrdom of seven Iranian senior military advisers a briefing and explanatory meeting was convened at noon on Sunday April 14 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of ambassadors diplomats and heads of international agencies residing in Tehran.
Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated: “Over the past six months, we have all witnessed the collective crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the people of Gaza and the West Bank. Furthermore, the Israeli regime has repeatedly targeted the locations and official military advisors of our country who were stationed in Syria on a mission to combat terrorism at the invitation of the Syrian government.”
In a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, Amir-Abdollahian characterized the response of Iran’s armed forces to the attack on the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus by the Zionist regime as a legitimate defense within the framework of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
In a phone call with Faisal Mekdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, they discussed the latest state of bilateral relations and developments in the region following the legitimate response of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the attack of the Zionist regime on the Iranian embassy in Damascus.
Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs also engaged in a telephone conversation with Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Sunday evening.
They discussed significant regional and international matters, including the operation conducted by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to military aggressions by the Zionist regime, particularly following the attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, as well as the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Talking to his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, the Iranian top diplomat elaborated on Iran’s diplomatic endeavors and actions taken over the past two weeks to address the legal and international violations committed by the Zionist regime, as well as the UN Security Council’s inaction due to opposition from the United States and two European countries regarding the condemnation of this regime.
He also talked with his Qatari counterpart and the country's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.
During the call, Amir-Abdollahian provided a briefing to the top Qatari diplomat regarding recent developments and actions taken by Iran against specific targets in the occupied territories, in the framework of Iran's legitimate defense.
Iranian Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian conveyed details of Iran’s legitimate defense and punitive measures against the Israeli regime to his Indian counterpart during a telephone conversation.
Amir-Abdollahian engaged in a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry to discuss the latest developments in bilateral relations and regional affairs. Iran's official elucidated Iran's perspective regarding the response and retaliatory measures undertaken by the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Zionist regime, citing the principle of legitimate defense enshrined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
During a conversation with Ian Borg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malta, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council, top Iranian diplomat Hossein Amirabdollahian elucidated on the recent robust response by Iran’s armed forces, affirming: "The military action undertaken by the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to the crimes perpetrated by the Zionist regime is conducted within the framework of legitimate defense and in accordance with international law." 204
